Overview
At Files Hub, we respect your right to control your data. You can delete your files, projects, or entire account at any time. This page explains how to delete different types of data from our system.
Types of Data Deletion
1. Delete Individual Files
Remove specific files while keeping your account and other data intact.
Via Dashboard:
- Log in to your account
- Navigate to your project
- Select the file you want to delete
- Click the "Delete" button
- Confirm the deletion
Via API:
Use the DELETE endpoint with your file ID:
DELETE /api/v1/files/{fileId}
2. Delete a Project
Remove an entire project including all its files, API keys, and settings.
Steps:
- Log in to your account
- Go to Projects
- Select the project you want to delete
- Click "Settings" or "Manage Project"
- Scroll to "Delete Project" section
- Click "Delete Project"
- Type the project name to confirm
- Click "Permanently Delete"
Warning: Deleting a project is permanent and cannot be undone. All files, API keys, and project data will be permanently removed.
3. Delete Your Account
Permanently remove your account and all associated data from Files Hub.

What Happens When You Delete Data?
Immediate Effects
- Files become immediately inaccessible via API
- All public links to the files stop working
- Files are removed from your dashboard
- Associated API keys are revoked (for project deletion)
Permanent Deletion Timeline
- Files: Permanently deleted from storage within 24 hours
- Metadata: Removed from database within 24 hours
- Backups: Removed from backup systems within 30 days
- Logs: API access logs retained for 90 days (as required by security compliance)
Data Retention for Legal Compliance
Certain data may be retained longer for legal and security purposes:
- Transaction Records: Retained for 7 years (tax and accounting requirements)
- Security Logs: Retained for 90 days (fraud prevention and security)
- Legal Hold Data: Retained as required by law enforcement or legal proceedings
This retention is necessary to comply with legal obligations and does not include the actual file content.

Important Notes
- Deletion is permanent: Once deleted, data cannot be recovered
- No refunds: Deleting data or your account does not entitle you to refunds for prepaid services
- Third-party backups: If you've downloaded files to your own systems, you're responsible for deleting those copies
- API integrations: Ensure your applications can handle deleted files gracefully

Before deleting your data, you may want to export it for your records. You can:
- Download individual files through the dashboard
- Use the API to bulk download your files
- Request a data export by contacting support
